The Dojo Sake Bar and Izakaya
Izakaya (居酒屋) is a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks. They are casual places for drinking after work with family and friends.
The name "izakaya" is a compound word consisting of "i" (to stay) and "sakaya" (sake shop). Izakaya originated from sake shops that allowed customers to sit on the premises and drink.
Izakaya are sometimes called akachòchin (red lantern) in daily conversation, because these paper lanterns are traditionally found in front of an izakaya
In Japan, an Izakaya is a popular place to go and enjoy a night out with friends, co-workers and family. It is a combination of bar and restaurant where you relax and enjoy small dishes as you order drinks.
