Alberto Sissi, owner and chef of Shawafel Lebanese Cuisine, has been open since August 2011. Shawarma and Falafel quick served restaurant, the name comes from the two words combined “Shawafel”. We serve chicken, lamb and beef mixed Shawarma; the traditional Lebanese way which is made from scratch with my family's secret sauce. All our meat are bought from local farmers, cutting it, marinating it and then skewered on the vertical spit. Same goes for the chicken shawarma. We also serve spreads such as: hummus and baba ghanoug. For salad options, we have Tabouleh and Fattouch as served in Lebanon. A side from other vegetarian options, we have a cauliflower sandwich that is topped with lettuce, tahini sauce, pickels and fries. For the night goers the french fries sandwich should be satisfying, it is a signature sandwich that we offer; the topping remains a secret.
My expertise in the restaurant business comes from a long journey with Jose Andres and Think Food Group. Their excellent customer service and attention to details has taught me how to treat a guest and make them come back. On the cooking side, I was given intense training in the Shawarma making at Rimal restaurant in Paris (rimal.fr) which is owned by the Khoury brothers.
Growing up in Lebanon and moving to Washington D.C., I come to realize that not many places offer the real Shawarma sandwich that I was raised eating. Having said that, I decided to be a pioneer in making people get the real taste of Lebanon in which they will experience at Shawafel.
Our hours of operation will be every day at 11:00am-9:00pm, Fri & Sat 11:00am-3:00pm, Sun 2:00pm-9:00pm.
