HistoryMedialunas Calentitas started in the year 1996 in Punta del Este, a summer town on the coast of Uruguay that attracts millions of tourists from around the world. This idea was born in 1994 when the founder Guillermo Cortes, a visionary specialized in homemade bakery and pastry, envisioned a potential of satisfying the high demands of the tourists by opening Medialunas Calentitas. Tourists from around the world quickly began to discover these products, gaining popularity during the summer season and soon becoming the first point of reference widely known in the national and foreign media.Tourists who were returning home after spending the whole day at the beach were invited to stop and try Medialunas. People loved them immediately. On the first day, 500 Medialunas were sold and continued to grow raising its sales up to 3.000 Medialunas per day. Currently an average of 15.000 Medialunas are sold per day, with a record of 20.000 Medialunas sold in one day. Medialunas Calentitas has become an icon of the Uruguayan summer. This successful enterprise has spread not only throughout Uruguay but also to its neighboring countries Brazil and Paraguay.
