In 2008, Partner Bing Zhou recognized an opportunity to bring authentic Chinese cuisine to the downtown Chicago market in a way that showcased the modern sensibility of his native country’s dining and vibrant, late-night lounge culture. Without hesitation, he approached his longtime friend and colleague Tony Hu. Having originally met in 1994 while working at the famed Szechuan House on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue, the duo forged a bond that would – more than 15 years later – unite Chef Hu’s unmatched culinary talent with Zhou’s vision to create Lao 18.
