Escobar Espresso
The roots of ESCOBAR ESPRESSO - a love story.
The passion for what is behind a cup of coffee made the ESCOBAR ESPRESSO founders decide to participate in the coffee culture of New Zealand.
It all starts in the “THE LAND OF COFFEE” – Colombia, where coffee beans grow at a high altitude in rich volcanic soils. It is the best coffee in the world. Rich, full bodied and perfectly balanced.
I was born and raised in the heart of the coffee region, surrounded by coffee plantations, fruit trees, rain forrest, rivers and mountains. (Colombia is the second most biologically diverse country on Earth). Learning the best practices in growing coffee and the effort put in to social responsible activities such as recycling, composting, soil health and environmental protections. Enjoying a fresh cup of coffee every day, with beans grown by my family. Knowledge and appreciation for coffee is a major part of my life.
After graduating from University in Colombia I moved to the USA, to learn english. To stay in touch with my coffee roots I worked as a barista and coffee connoisseur for the biggest coffee company in the world . I also owned a healthy and fresh organic smoothie bar in Seal Beach, California. The fruits are also part of the coffee culture, fruit trees are needed to provide shade and healthy nutrients to the coffee plants. In Colombia the variety of fruits is enormous and is one of the primary ingredients for all recipes.
Nigel was a customer at the juice bar, enjoying a real fruit smoothie every morning after his runs training for the Long Beach marathon. Born and raised in New Zealand after graduating from University he decided to do some travelling around the world. Exploring different cultures and regions and working as a tour manager in Europe and then as a GM for a multinational company in the USA.
Enjoying a great cup of coffee every day, made him develop a taste for good coffee and learn more about the origins, qualities and farming. Always supporting local coffee shops, fair trade and organic shade grown coffee.
We both decided to move back to New Zealand. To be close to family and friends, to enjoy the spectacularly beautiful landscape, the lovely people and to start our own espresso bar, committed to the best quality of coffee in the world, using only fair trade coffee, sharing our passion for coffee culture and serving a hand crafted coffee with love.
We look forward to meeting you at Escobar Espresso.
