Bite
Every ingredient is hand selected from New York City’s most connoisseur-praised establishments. The greens are organic, the bread from Balthazar, mozzarella from Joe’s Dairy, and croissants from Ceci-Cela. As a result, Bite’s menu is also an Eden for the health-conscious as well as for the epicurean elite.
Bite’s menu consists of a fusion of european american and med cuisine with unique twists. The frozen naked mojitos, are a refreshing non-alcoholic version of the popular favorite summer drink, made with mint and crushed ice ($3). The exotic tuna sandwich ingredients include yellow curry, golden raisins and red cabbage ($6). Salads, such as the Mediterranean, includes generous portions of baby greens, hummus, sautéed eggplants, roasted pepper tapenade, chopped salad, roasted almonds & pine nuts ($7). While the food is immaculate, the ambiance is relaxed. At the 14th Street location there is a monthly art opening featuring the work of talented local artists.
The first Bite location opened in July 2002 at the intersection of Lafayette, Bleecker, and Mulberry. The second location opened July 2005 on 14th Street between Second and Third Avenues. Bite is open daily from eight to eight and twelve to eight on the weekends at the Lafayette location and eight to twelve and eleven to ten on Sundays at the 14th Street location. Coming soon, Bite will offer late night dining for those who like a healthy ‘bite’ after a night of dancing and drinking.
Bite is the brainchild of Ami Melamed, a resident New Yorker who attended the Fashion Institute of Technology for fashion and graphic design but had no formal culinary education. Ami chose to create a niche sandwich shop based on one simple principle: to offer the best ingredients for a value, and has lead to the successful establishment of two locations and ambitions for additional expansion in 2008. This past July marks the fifth anniversary for the opening of Bite.
