Bistro Nora is an Upper East Side neighborhood restaurant on 1586 Second Avenue between East 82nd Street and East 83rd Street serving good home cooked American food on a street inundated with pubs, ethnic restaurants, and diners. Owner Alan Chin, formerly of the Soho Kitchen and Bar and the MetroCafe and Wine Bar felt the neighborhood needed a simple, affordable, and eager to please restaurant that is way cooler than a diner and less boisterous than a pub. The theme is American fare, but Alan will also include a couple of favorite Asian type dishes from his childhood days living in Chinatown, Manhattan.
In addition to standard fare such as Roasted Chicken and Burgers, Bistro Nora will also serve new favorites like Salmon and Avocado Tartare, and Pulled Duck Sandwich with Hoisin Mayo. The creamy Macaroni and Cheese dish with four cheeses, which was a huge favorite from MetroCafe & Wine Bar days will be brought back.
Bistro Nora will have its’ grand opening on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 and will be open for lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on weekends. A kid’s menu will be available and take-out and delivery will begin the day after the opening.
Alan Chin is also a veteran of the Greene Street Café and the Wall Street Kitchen and Bar.
Alan named the new bistro after his 5-year old daughter, Nora, as a way to keep her close to him during the long hours the restaurant business usually requires. Alan and his team hope to bring the same welcoming and relaxed vibe to the bistro as he did from his days working at Soho Kitchen & Bar and the MetroCafe & Wine Bar.
