Run by an outfit called Branded Restaurants—the company behind faux-downhome eateries Duke’s and City Crab, this theme-park diner pulls in a steady flow of customers as perky servers in tight T-shirts navigate the candy-colored, pop-artifact-packed room to seventies and eighties tunes. Cutesy menu names and odd prices (“Name That Tuna” sandwich, $9.97) reinforce the general wackiness. Nearly everything on the menu arrives in gargantuan portions, which distracts from the fact that most of it isn’t so good. Pot pies are pasty, hamburgers are overcooked, salad are bland. To memorialize the meal, you can acquire a Big Daddy’s trucker hat, tank top, or “girly shirt.” If nothing else makes you pine for the days of down-and-dirty diners, a $2.54 cup of coffee certainly will.
